Dugong has a 6m long floating pontoon with a hand winch and rollers suitable for pulling a small boat or tinnie out of the water during extended stays. Larger boats must remain moored to the pontoon.
There is shore power and running water available on the pontoon. The light switch is also in the housing for the power point. As there are no handrails on the pontoon and the gangway has large gaps, children are not permitted on the pontoon without a competent adult to supervise them, there is a child proof pool gate at the top of the gangway. If someone does fall off, there are ladders spaced along the canal wall to allow you to get back on dry land. A ladder will be fitted to the pontoon itself in January 2016.
You’re more than welcome to bring fishing gear and fish from pontoon, or take a camping chair down and just enjoy the canalside relaxation.
The closest boat ramp to the canals is located at the VMR base just as you cross on to Bribie Island. A separate article here will outline the best way to get your boat to the house.
